Systems Engineer

We represent a leading Fortune 200 steel manufacturing company.

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for:

- Administration, planning and maintenance of Windows operating system servers and services, including support of database servers, applications, active directory and exchange
- Planning, installing and testing new versions of server operating systems and applications
- Writing systems documentation, including standards and procedures
- Controlling access permissions and privileges in servers and applications
- Developing, managing and testing backup and recovery plans
- Capacity planning and performance management and improvement
- Working closely with IT project managers, database programmers, web developers and other IT personnel
- Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure system integrity and security
- Providing support for non-IT servers and systems
- Promoting a strong, customer-service focused operation

Qualifications for the position include:

- Minimum of 5 years work experience in IT related field
- Work experience in an administration and engineering role on Microsoft Windows servers and server virtualization, including backup and recovery experience
- Experience planning, deploying, and supporting server and application installations and upgrades
- Extensive knowledge of Windows 2000, 2003, and/or 2008 server platforms
- SAN experience
- Experience with VMWare
- Experience testing and monitoring database performance
- Bachelor’s degree in computer-related or technical field

Preferred qualifications include:

- Working knowledge of Windows Exchange Server
- Working knowledge of IIS, FTP Server Installations
- Experience with MCSE on Windows Server 2003 or MCITP Server or Enterprise Administrator on Windows 2008
- Experience with other operating systems, i.e. Unix/Linux, AS400 beneficial
- Networking experience
- Experience in a heavy industrial job setting
